He now limits his practice to
Aviation Medicine. This involves examining student,
private, commercial, and airline pilots; and also Air Traffic
Controllers. Although no longer active in flying, he holds a
commercial license with multi-engine, instrument, and instructor
ratings.

"I love aviation and airplanes, and especially talking
to pilots "they are all (slightly) crazy, but never dull;
they are fascinating people who respect and love aviation." He
has been an FAA Senior Medical Examiner (AME) for many years.
"The sole purpose of the AME program is to promote aviation
safety." Dr. Stoutt writes a regular column for the Federal Air
Surgeon’s Medical Bulletin. (He denies having known the Wright
Brothers. )
He and his wife Tyleen have two married children: Van and Tassie
both now live in Louisville. His interests? "Walking my
standard poodle and Tyleen’s Scottish terrier, reading, swimming,
computers, digital photography and darkroom, learning Spanish, and
writing." Also: "Any kind of humor makes my day."
